Identification of Generalised (AA) Amyloidosis in an Arabian Gazelle (Gazella gazella sp.)
نویسندگان
چکیده
INTRODUCTION Amyloidosis has been previously documented in Dorcas and Mountain gazelles, most notably in a herd of Dorcas gazelles of the National Zoological Park in Washington8. The renal medulla was principally involved, leading to renal failure. In some cases there was more generalised involvement including the liver, spleen, adrenal glands and intestine. Studies have shown that this is of the reactive type (AA), which is believed to be derived from the acute phase protein SAA4. This case report identifies generalised AA amyloidosis in an Arabian gazelle in which there was glomerular and medullary deposition.

Objective: This study aimed at comparing serum parameters of clinically healthy gazelles of Al Wabra Wildlife Preservation (AWWP), Qatar, with reference ranges of domestic and other wild ruminants, in order to gain, on the one hand, insight into the nutritional status of the animals, and, on the other hand, to establish reference ranges for the investigated species. Material and methods: Serum ...
متن کاملComparative analysis of reproductive cycles in female Persian gazelle (Gazella subgutturosa subgutturosa) (Central Asia) and sand gazelle (Gazella subgutturosa marica) (Arabian Peninsula).
This study was conducted at the Bukhara breeding centre (Ouzbekistan, Central Asia) on Persian gazelles (Gazella subgutturosa subgutturosa) and at Thumammah (Saudi Arabia) on sand gazelles (Gazella subgutturosa marica). Plasma prolactin (PRL) and progesterone were determined in groups of females. Because these females were under two different photoperiods (20 degrees N in Saudi Arabia and 40 de...
متن کاملAging mountain gazelle (Gazella gazella): refining methods of tooth eruption and wear and bone fusion
This paper refines current methods for aging mountain gazelle (Gazella gazella), one of the most common species hunted by prehistoric humans in the southern Levant. Most importantly, we present a new tooth wear scheme for aging the lower deciduous fourth premolar (dP4), the lower permanentmolars (M1,M2,M3) and the lower fourth premolar (P4) of the gazelle. Broaderwear stages for completemandibl...
متن کاملWild Gazelles of the Southern Levant: Genetic Profiling Defines New Conservation Priorities
The mountain gazelle (Gazella gazelle), Dorcas gazelle (Gazella Dorcas) and acacia gazelle (Gazella arabica acacia) were historically abundant in the southern Levant, and more specifically in Israel. Anthropogenic and natural changes have caused a rapid decline in gazelle populations, raising concerns about their conservation status and future survival. The genetic profile of 111 wild gazelles ...
متن کاملPhylogeny of gazelles in some islands of Iran based on mtDNA sequences: Species identification and implications for conservation
Different species of gazelles are among the most endangered mammals on the Asian steppes and occur in the central, southern and northwestern regions of Iran. The previous conservation efforts in this region have been incomplete due to confusion about the phylogenetic relationship among various populations. So that, different conservation programs such as ex-situ breeding and transfer of captive...
